ELKTON, Fla. -- After a weekend of rain and powerful winds, families in Elkton are picking up the pieces of damaged property. But one man tells Action News, he couldn't believe it when he captured the culprit on camera.
Tuesday, families are picking up the pieces from a storm that turned barns into piles of jagged wood and sent trees into homes. These folks swore what ripped through was a tornado. Turns out, they were right.
This is brand new, exclusive video Action News just received, William Hersey says it shows the EF:0 tornado.
"I knew instantly it was a funnel cloud when I saw it. I went woah no! Instantly I did. Then after I thought about it I thought maybe it was a tree branch that was blowing across where I was video taping," Hersey told Action News.
The National Weather Service survey team confirms a brief tornado touched down near Meadow Brook Road and State Road 207 in Elkton. It's confirmation Hershey didn't need.
"After I saw it I thought my god I'm the only person on earth who saw this," he said.
One injury was reported. A woman says that very tornado picked up her car and threw it like a toy.
"All I remember is spinning around in circles and then a big bump," said Kristen Akers.
Hurley says today after seeing the damage, it's a surreal feeling knowing he came face to face with what caused it.
"I just kinda thought I had captured what was going on at the time so it was kind of weird."
The National Weather Service says an EF:0 tornado brought with it winds between 60 and 80 miles per hour. Many folks can't believe their homes were spared by its wrath.
