PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Prosecutors say Elmer Bowman preyed on his victim before torturing her and should be punished with a sentence of life in prison and chemical castration.
A jury Wednesday convicted Bowman of sexual battery with a deadly weapon or force and kidnapping after deliberating for 20 minutes.
Authorities said Bowman kidnapped a 25-year-old woman in Daytona Beach at knifepoint, drove her to Putnam County where he tied her up at her wrists, ankles, and neck.
Prosecutors said Bowman hung the woman from a beam and sexually assaulted and beat her for 17 hours. Bowman, according to prosecutors, recorded the torture session.
The woman escaped to a neighbor's house when Bowman fell asleep.
Bowman faces 25 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for next Tuesday.
