JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- Widespread thunderstorms will spread from west to east/northeast through this afternoon producing a period of heavy rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning and possibly some hail. The most intense storms could drop 1-2" of rain in a short time with winds up to 50 mph and hail as big as one-half to inch in diameter. There will be a break in many areas for a time late in the afternoon into the early evening though at least a few scattered showers and storms will still be possible. Temperatures will be hot -- in the low 90s -- before storms move in then quickly drop into the 70s and low 80s before recovering a bit late in the day. Keep an eye to the sky this afternoon as storms move all the way to the beaches. If you see lightning or hear thunder, go indoors and stay there at least 30 minutes after hearing the last thunder clap. Send your storm photos **
