Suspect pleads not guilty in deadly stabbing at Fionn MacCool's
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local Navy veteran has pleaded not guilty in the deadly stabbing at Fionn MacCool's Irish Pub at the Jacksonville Landing. Matthew Hinson is accused of killing William Pettry.
Pettry is from Illinois and was in town to watch the Jaguars v. Bears football game. Detectives say Hinson originally admitted to murdering Pettry in a jealous rage.
Police say Hinson slashed Pettry after he saw Pettry and another man talking to Hinson's wife. Detectives then say Hinson put the knife back in his pocket and walked out of the pub. He was pulled over and arrested moments later.
A public defender tells Action News, Matthew Hinson is a graduate of Orange Park High School and served five years in the Navy.
Jury selection in this case is scheduled to begin in March of 2013.
