BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- A 13-year-old boy is in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.
His 18-year-old brother, Joseph Macquarrie, is being held in connection with the shooting, according to Sheriff Joey Dobson.
The incident happened Tuesday night at a home off Tom Wilkerson Road in Macclenny.
The younger teen is hospitalized at UF Health in Jacksonville.
Deputies are holding Macquarrie on a charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, and crimes against a person (culpable negligence to inflict harm).
The police report shows Macquarrie initially told people at Fraser Hospital that his brother was shot by an unknown person at the Baker County Fairgrounds.
The investigating deputy said Macquarrie later told another investigator that he was playing with a black Taurus handgun when it fired.
A 15-month-old child was in the home at the time of the shooting.
Deputies found a gun hidden underneath the mobile home.
