Two arrested in connection with shooting of LaVilla student
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a local teenager.
Trashonda Jenice Richardson is facing charges in the shooting. She is the mother of an 11-year-old boy who was among five children home alone with 13-year-old Titania Mitchell.
The teenager was shot and killed Saturday afternoon at a home on Riverstone Way. Police say the boy found a handgun, pointed it at Titiana and pulled the trigger. She was hit in the forehead.
Police are calling the shooting an accident.
Police have also charged Eric Maurice Pearlman. He is Richardson's boyfriend. Both face charges of culpable negligence and having an improperly stored firearm.
Mitchell attended LaVilla School for the Arts. The school delayed today's start of the FCATs to give classmates time to grieve.
