JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- UPS workers this Christmas have been scrambling like Santa's elves.

The shipping company admits it was overwhelmed with so many holiday packages that it was more than it could handle.

"Today it's Christmas Day and I still haven't received it," said Don Gibson of Jacksonville's Southside who never got a UPS package schedule to arrive by Christmas Eve.

This is the first time UPS failed to deliver shipments guaranteed in time for Christmas when the company couldn't blame weather or technical glitches.  It was simply too much volume.

UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said, "The volume of air packages in the UPS system did exceed capacity as demand was much greater than our forecast."

UPS won't admit how many packages were delayed.  Company officials say they did consider making deliveries Christmas Day to make it up to customers, but decided to maintain its policy of no deliveries on December 25th.

Big oops for UPS. Especially with their contract with Amazon. UPS kicked FedX from Amazon. Hum, wonder if FedX gets the contract back? I use USPS as my mailings are to Nevada, Calif, & Hawai's. Just easier for me. Cost about the same and now that the USPS has tracking and $50 insurance as part of the mailings, it was a breeze for me. Each one received their package within 2 days. I also mailed early. Learned that decades ago, do not wait till the last chance dates.

Here is my question; why do they charge for insurance? I paid almost $50 for a small package to be delivered to Germany (which by the way has still not arrived two weeks later, grrrrrr!) and have to pay an additional fee to gurantee that USPS will provide the service im paying for.. GTFO.. so here we are, waiting, missed my brothers birthday AND christmas.. I feel awful for the little guy, not to mention I'd like to know where my $400 worth of contents went?!

More and more people are taking advantage of ordering online and having it shipped to their homes. That is what I did. I got all my packages but I think that is why packages aren't arriving on time.

I ordered several presents online this year and all of them were delivered on time....by UPS. Honestly, you have to know that when you wait until the last minute to order your gifts they might not make it. Sure it is disappointing when you don't get your order by the due date. But at the end of the day, think of a creative way to give your thoughtful present and it will be delivered the day after Christmas. Next year, order sooner and you won't be in this situation.

Hopefully UPS (and the Postal service will work to provide the services they promise. Especially during the season where they make the most profit. Christmas should be appreciated by those who have profited.
