MAYPORT, Fla. -- The Navy-Marine Corp Classic is just hours away and everyone's amped up for the big game, including USS Bataan Captain Erik Ross.
"Are you kidding me?! It's awesome," he says.
The ship pulled into Mayport last Friday. And since then, it's gotten a complete makeover. Now, seven days later it's equipped with a full basketball court and 3,800 seats.
Mayor Alvin Brown says it's something the city's been working on for quite a while.
"It's putting us on a world stage again. Really showing our men and women who serve and give us our freedom and protect," says Mayor Brown.
The Navy-Marine Corps Classic is just one of the many events taking place in Jacksonville this week that honors our military. It will continue tonight with this game and wrap up with the annual Veterans Day Parade on November 12 in downtown Jacksonville.
"It respects the friendship and the relationship between Jacksonville and the navy, the marine corp and other veterans," says Captain Ross.
Tonight the Florida Gators will take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Tip off is at 9:15.
