PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (PBP) -- A woman survived a brush with an alligator today that apparently attacked and sank her inflatable boat in the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said.

Crews responded to the refuge around 12:15 p.m. after learning of the attack, said Capt; Albert Borroto, Fire Rescue spokesman.

The woman’s location within the 150,000-acre refuge west of Boynton Beach was so remote that firefighters had to use an airboat to reach her.

Borroto said they found her uninjured, although extremely shaken up by the encounter with the alligator, which teem throughout the refuge.

Firefighters gave the woman a ride back to safety and dry land, Borroto said.
