JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol says the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 are now open after a crash south of St. Augustine Road closed the interstate for hours.

A crash report from the F.H.P. obtained by Action News says the crash involving a wrecker and three other vehicles happened just after midnight Saturday three miles south of St. Augustine Road.

According to the F.H.P. a front tire of the wrecker blew out as 50-year-old Terry McCart, of Jacksonville, was driving northbound on I-95 causing McCart to lose control of the large wrecker. The wrecker overturned and crashed into the median guardrail before going across southbound lanes and coming to a rest on the southbound shoulder.

The F.H.P. says McCart was killed in the crash.

Three other vehicles crashed into debris from the wrecker, causing damage, but no one else was hurt in the collisions.

The highway patrol closed the southbound lanes on I-95 until about 9:30 a.m.
