Atlantic Beach holds hearing on human rights ordinance

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — The Atlantic Beach City Commission held a workshop and public hearing over the proposed human rights ordinance Monday night.

The measure would add explicit protections for residents based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in employment, housing and public accommodation.

The Jacksonville Coalition for Equality is urging Atlantic Beach residents and others to attend and speak at the workshop and wore red in a show of solidarity for the bill.

The measure passed 3-2 in a preliminary vote two weeks ago. The bill is now moving to the August 11 meeting in tact for a vote.
