Michigan driving records obtained Thursday by The Associated Press show someone reported Walter Roney to state motor vehicle officials in September. They recommended the Dearborn resident be re-examined to determine whether he was still competent.
The Palm Beach Post reported that Roney was driving a 1986 RV westbound on eastbound traffic along State Road 70 near Midway Road. Santia Feketa, 17, and Britney Poindexter, 16, were headed eastbound in a 2013 Chevy Silverado when Roney crashed into them. Both Feketa and Poindexter were killed.
He passed his test Jan. 8, 29 days before Tuesday's head-on crash in Fort Pierce. Feketa and Piondexter were best friends headed to a skating rink.
Roney and Bruns remain hospitalized. A man who answered at a phone number linked to Roney declined to comment.
