Warrants reveal what 3 JSO detectives accused of evidence tampering discussed after fatal shooting

Three undercover Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detectives are accused of getting rid of evidence at the scene of a deadly police shooting.

Now, Action News Jax can show you word for word what they were saying to each other right after the shooting.

The three detectives face charges for those actions.

Word for word, the warrant details the conversation between all three of those officers, just seconds after the fatal shooting of a drug suspect.

Officers Lance Griffis, Bryan Turner and Kyle Kvies are charged with tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

It's important to mention these charges are not related to the shooting, but to what happened after.

In the warrant, seen only by Action News Jax, Kvies could be heard saying, "Hey get all the beer."

Turner replies, "Yeah, get rid of that (expletive).”

Kvies says, "Yeah, I will."

Moments later, Kvies said, "How far I got to go with these beers."

Turner replies, "As far as you can."

The warrant goes on to say about four minutes later, Kvies said, "We're good. I got rid of them all."

Griffis then asks "Are there any in the back?"

Kvies replies, "No. I don't know. Let me check."

Griffis said, "Look in the back good."

According to the warrant, during the police interview that night, Kvies and Griffis did not disclose that they had beer that had been removed. The warrant notes that the "detectives are allowed by policy to have 'props' to include beer while they are working."

All three detectives are suspended without pay.

The JSO detectives were arrested last week. They were working undercover in the Durkeeville neighborhood on Feb. 6 when they say 22-year-old Jerome Allen tried to rob them.

The warrants also reveal where the officers were sitting in the undercover SUV, as well as who pulled the trigger.

Griffis was driving the vehicle, Turner was seated in the passenger's seat and Kvies was seated in the backseat. Turner shot fired his weapon, killing Allen. It turns out Allen was carrying a replica handgun.

This is the second police shooting for JSO so far this year.

Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said the evidence shows the officers were likely drinking during the undercover operation.

"There was something else going on here and we don't know what. Were they drinking, yes or no? If they weren't, then why the concern about getting rid of the beer in the car?" Carson said.
