Lemongrass Restaurant and Horizons among eateries temporarily shut down by inspectors

Health inspectors were forced to close several restaurants that had pest control issues.

Action News Jax visited Hook Fish & Chicken on North Myrtle Avenue.  A health inspector found 20 live roaches, 23 dead roaches, live small flying insects and temperature issues with its chicken wings. It was temporarily shut down and required several follow-up visits before being allowed to reopen for business. The owner allowed Action News Jax to look around the kitchen.  We saw one fly, but nothing else.

The owner disagrees with the inspection report saying, “Ma’am I’m telling you, from the beginning we don’t have it. We are a regular restaurant. We don’t have what she’s saying.”

The owner added that the restaurant has had regular pest control for the past 10 years.

A health inspector visited the Horizons in Fernandina Beach, The health inspector found 24 live roaches, a black-green mold-like substance in the ice machine and soiled cutting boards. It was shut down and had five follow-up inspections.

Lemongrass Restaurant on Old Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville received violations from health inspectors. The inspectors found 10 live roaches in the kitchen, roach droppings and raw meat stored over sauces in the refrigerator. They were temporarily shut down and had three follow-up inspections before being allowed to reopen.

At Danny’s Place in Jacksonville, a health inspector found more than 30 live roaches, 28 dead roaches and food without time markings to avoid expiration. It was temporarily closed to address pest control issues and was allowed to reopen for business after its third inspection.
