1 year later, still no arrests after men's bodies found in burning car in St. Augustine

It’s been one year since the bodies of two men were found in a burning car in St. Augustine.

Annette Durden said she’s still looking for closure in her son’s death.

“All I’m doing, me and my family, is asking for somebody to come forward with information,” Durden said.

It may seem like a simple request from Annette Durden, but this request is loaded with hurt and pain. Her son, Charles, and his best friend, Staffon Larry, were shot and killed a year ago. Their bodies were found inside the car, the car was set on fire.

“We have the right to know what happened to our boys. This just wasn’t a killing. This was a overkill,” Durden said.

On Friday night, family members gathered at the same spot where police found the bodies. In April, family members and the St. Augustine Police Department unveiled a plaque in honor of the men.

A year later, police say active leads are still coming in for this case. But still, no arrests have been made, leaving the family without answers.

“If you just turn yourself in, and stop being a coward. Turn yourself in. We just want closure, we don’t hate anybody, because I can’t hate anyone, with the God I serve,” Charles' aunt Frankie Mae Durden said.

“I can’t say I feel the same way my sister feel, because I don’t know if and when or if I can ever forgive them for what they did. They took my only child away from me,” Annette Durden said.
