2 on-board when sailboat hits Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Two people on-board a vessel were not injured when a sailboat crashed into the Bridge of Lions Wednesday morning in St. Augustine.

The boat, Morning Star, broke loose from its mooring and was pinned against the bridge. The couple, who were on-board, were asleep when the boat crashed into the bridge.

Sea Tow removed the boat.

The two people on the vessel at the time were not hurt, said the St. Augustine Police Department.

Police said there is no damage to the bridge. The Morning Star was damaged, including its mast.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is assessing the bridge and investigating the crash. FWC said it doesn’t appear that the couple will be fined for negligence.
