A two-year-old boy drowned in a gated pool Saturday in Westside Jacksonville, police reported.
The drowning happened in the 8000 block of Hamden Circle. The parents told Action News Jax he had a "fascination with water."
Both parents, who thought the child was napping, were home at the time of the drowning. When the father looked for the boy, he found him unresponsive in the pool.
The father told Action News Jax that he had last checked on Colton 15 minutes before. He said he went out to get the mail and watched television before he discovered the boy left his room.
The father, who didn't want to speak on camera, said Colton was probably trying to grab his stuffed animal that dropped in the pool.
The boy, Colton Holbrook, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where he later died.

Police say pool had a gate around it, but wouldn't be impossible to believe a toddler could get through. https://t.co/IaTSiiWiHO
