Police are investigating after a 3-year-old was shot on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 9200 block of Whisper Glen Drive North just after noon.
The child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A neighbor tells Action News Jax that the child, a boy, got the gun out and fired a shot, grazing himself in the arm.
Sgt. David Hall said detectives are still investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.
JSO tweeted late Wednesday night that the child's mother was not at the scene of the incident when the shooting happened.

JSO said the woman present during the incident was not the child's mother.

JSO also tweeted that no arrests have been made in this case.

Since February, four other children ages 12 and under have been shot. One of those children, 5-year-old Serenity Allen, died after being accidentally shot by her 8-year-old brother.
