Action News Jax Investigates: Personnel history of detectives accused of evidence tampering

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax is learning more about the three Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Thursday for tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

Lance Griffis, Bryan Turner and Kyle Kvies are accused of removing beer from the scene of a Feb. 6 officer-involved shooting in Durkeeville.

JSO said the detectives were heard discussing how to remove the beer on an audio recording at the scene.

We obtained the detectives’ history through a public records request.

Since Bryan Turner joined JSO in 2008, he had several complaints, including for excessive force and unbecoming conduct by an officer.

Records show he was involved in four accidents.

Turner also has an extensive history from his time with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Action News Jax learned that when he was a correctional officer, he was suspended for driving recklessly after drinking alcohol.

His personnel file also shows he was disciplined for driving 95 mph in a 55-mph zone.

Records also shows he was involved in two crashes while on duty, but was only found at fault for one of them.

Griffis joined JSO in 2006, and had a 2012 complaint for a false arrest and was involved in an accident last year.

On Kvies’ history, there were citizen complaints but neither was sustained.
