Active shooter drill at Navy Exchange Complex

Naval Station Mayport hosted an active shooter drill Monday at the Navy Exchange Complex.

The naval station worked with local and federal agencies to practice handling an active shooter situation.

The drill was from noon to 4 p.m., and the store was closed.

The drill is not in response to a specific threat, authorities said. It is part of a nationwide "force protection" drill that will be happening at many naval installations.

“Well in the wake of all the active shooter events that have happened in the country recently the navy wants to be ready,” said Jamie Sherer Deputy Fire Chief for First Coast Navy.
