Alachua County man charged with robbing St. Johns County bank

A 26-year-old Alachua County man is facing charges after police said he robbed several banks, including one in St. Johns County.

William Lee Thomas, 25, is charged with robbery with a firearm after he robbed TD Bank on U.S. 1 in September, deputies said.

Thomas has been in the Alachua County Jail since his arrest on Sept. 10 on eight felony charges.

Deputies said Thomas entered the bank at 3:15 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. He implied he had a weapon and fled on foot.

Surveillance video helped lead detectives to Thomas' identity.

Deputies said Thomas has a lengthy criminal history. They believe he is responsible for two additional bank robberies.
