Better Business Bureau: Scammers leaving fake package notifications on doorsteps, in email

The Better Business Bureau is alerting shoppers about fake package notifications that have been showing up on doorsteps and in email.

Tom Stephens of the BBB said the latest scam is likely a part of an overseas operation — but has local ties to someone who is willing to place a fake note on your property.

"That would mean they hired somebody local to do that type of stuff. He probably has no clue what he's doing," said Stephens.

Scammers are also posing as retail giant Amazon, sending fake emails saying there is a problem with your order and asking for your account information.

“They can be very good. They can spoof email addresses to make them look like they came from Amazon,” said Stephens.

The BBB said the best way to verify a notification is to check your online account and track your order.
