A boy died after he was hit by an SUV in Palatka on Friday morning.
Palatka Fire Rescue said the child, identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as 4-year-old Tripp Hudson, was flown to UF Health Jacksonville after being hit on State Road 20 near Silver Lake Road.
FHP said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Family tells Action News Jax that the boy left his house and ran after his dad, who was walking to the store.

FHP said a 1998 GMC Jimmy driven by a 33-year-old Interlachen woman was traveling east on State Road 20.
FHP said the boy entered the road from the south shoulder of State Road 20. The driver braked to avoid hitting the boy.
The boy didn't see oncoming traffic and was hit, family said. The boy died at the hospital.
FHP is investigating.
