Callahan woman killed in head-on accident in Nassau County

A Callahan woman was killed in a head-on collision Friday night on SR-115 and Bell Lane in Nassau County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An FHP report states that 52 year old Patricia Trantham was traveling south on SR-115 when a car traveling north, driven by 21 year old Layton Mizell from Folkston,Georgia veered into her lane for an unknown reason.

Trantham's Toyota Rav4 was struck head-on by Mizell's Toyota 4Runner, the FHP said.

Trantham was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the FHP.

Mizell was transported to UF Health Jacksonville in serious condition, FHP said.

The FHP report indicates the results of alcohol tests and charges are pending.
