Car burglars target streets off Mayport Road

Neighbors living on the east and west side of Mayport Road have been the latest target for car burglars.

Police say thieves hit more than 20 cars.

Neighbors say one of the most recent areas affected was off of Bonita Road.

“Usually, things like that don’t happen around here, so we’re very concerned when something does,” said neighbor Brennan Reed.

Police say they’ve arrested a 17-year-old responsible for breaking into several of the vehicles, and have a warrant out for another juvenile.

Police say that with the arrest, seven cases in the area were cleared, and that they believe the two teens could be related to the crime off Bonita Road as well.

Neighbors say it’s an unfortunate situation, but trust officers to catch the bad guys.

“The Atlantic Beach police do a good job at what they do and I count of them to eliminate this potential threat,” said Reed.

Police say they are still conducting high visibility patrols and ask that neighbors keep all their doors locked.
