CCSO arrests correct suspect after two wrongful arrests

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — The correct Ashley Chiasson was arrested Thursday night.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office, who earlier in the week said it had incorrectly arrested and charged 28-year-old Ashley Nicole Chiasson twice, said the right suspect, 31-year-old Ashley Odessa Chiasson, was booked into the Clay County Jail on Thursday night.

Ashley Odessa Chiasson was wanted by CCSO for her alleged involvement in two financial crimes, according to CCSO spokeswoman Mary Justino. She is charged with grand theft ($300-$4,999) and attempt to defraud financial institution by schemes.

Law enforcement made contact with Ashley Odessa Chiasson on Thursday night in Jacksonville and she met detectives for questioning at the CCSO Orange Park Operations Center.

The wrongly arrested woman, Ashley Nicole Chiasson, told Action News in a statement issued by her attorney that being wrongfully arrested and charged twice has been "devastating."

This is the second time in a year the CCSO has wrongfully accused and arrested someone. Cody Lee Williams, 18, was arrested on charges he had sex with a girl under the age of 12 when deputies really meant to arrest Cody Raymond Williams, who had the same birth year.

Justino said Ashley Odessa Chiasson's mugshot would be available online by 11 p.m. Thursday. Ashley Odessa Chiasson is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
