Charges dropped for Jacksonville man falsely accused of home invasion

Charges have been dropped for a Jacksonville man who was falsely accused as a home invasion suspect.

Police say Kenneth Myers' car matched the description of one involved in an armed home invasion. But it turned out the victim made the story up.

But it was too late for Myers when police arrested him at a Gate gas station in August.

Police charged him with resisting arrest without violence and reckless driving. But officers never actually charged him with the home invasion once they determined the allegation was false.

Months later, the state attorney’s office dropped the charges.

Myers talked to our Action News Jax Larry Spruill on Friday about the dropped charges.

“I felt good, of course. It definitely was some kind of relief,” Myers said. “It’s still a long battle, that I have to go through now.”

Myers said the next step is to get the charges expunged, which is another fee, and more months of this process.

Myers’ attorney says after the expungement process, they are also considering filing a civil case as well.
