Child hit by SUV near Golden Isles Elementary School, police say

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A 7-year-old child who was hit by an SUV near a Brunswick elementary school is expected to be fine.

The child was hit after he ran across the road near Golden Isles Elementary in Brunswick, law enforcement said.

A school resource officer saw what happened and ran to the child's aid.

The woman driving the SUV also stopped to help.

He was taken to Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville by helicopter as a precaution.

He had a few bumps and bruises but is expected to be OK.

Glynn County police said there was no cross walk where the boy crossed.

They said he may have been running across the street to join his sister on the other side of the road.

Speed was not a factor in the crash, officials said.

School officials said the crash did not happen on school property, which is not far from where the crash happened.
