Teen swimmer's body found in Black Creek

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — Authorities in Clay County recovered a body in the search for a missing swimmer in Black Creek.

Crews pulled the body of Howard Wiley IV, 19,  from the water shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses told deputies they lost sight of Wiley. He went under while trying to cross the creek.

Friends swimming with Wiley said he bobbed and wasn't seen again.

"We were beside each other swimming to the other side and he was going. Right after that I couldn't see him and I turned around and he was screaming for help and that's when I jumped after him," said Alex Karchske.

"He told us before he got in his knee was hurt. Well, when he went to go across all you would see is him go up. He splashed his arms, he went down came back up and the third time he went down and came up again it looked like something just dragged him under," said witness Brianna Willoughby.

A spokesperson with the Clay County Sheriff's Office said it appears Wiley grew tired.
