Clay County Sheriff's Office kicks off its Youth Leadership Academy

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Sheriff Darryl Daniels' Youth Leadership Academy will be first of its kind for Clay County.

The initiative aims to teach teenagers life and leadership skills; initially there will be one student from each Clay County junior and senior high school.

The goal of the Youth Leadership Academy is to provide students with the tools to thrive in their high school and college careers, to grow personal leadership skills and knowledge they can take back to their respective schools.

The Academy will have classroom sessions one Saturday a month for the next three months. Students will receive approximately 24 hours of classroom instruction. Each student will prepare an individual project, which will be presented to their class.

Students will receive instruction on job interview skills, social media responsibility, leadership, integrity, dressing for success, media relations and public speaking.

They will learn the structure of Clay County government, elect class leaders, and attend a Board of County Commissioners meeting.
