Crash with life-threatening injuries closes Collins Road near I-295

A crash with life-threatening injuries was reported Wednesday at Collins Road and Plantation Bay.

The crash happened at the entrance to a large apartment complex near I-295. Traffic was rerouted away from the crash for over two hours.

JSO said a Honda SUV was westbound on Collins Road when a Honda Civic drove into the path of the SUV.

The driver of the Civic was transported to Orange Park Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver, a 41-year-old male, was immediately taken into surgery.

The driver of the SUV had two small children in the car with him, but none of the three occupants were injured.
