JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Several day cares are offering to help parents after a Westside day care was damaged Monday night by fire.
Crews from multiple agencies fought the fire around 9 p.m. at Childtime Children's Center on Argyle Forest Boulevard.
Clay Fire Rescue sent a fire engine to help Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department fight the fire.
The day care is closed, and it had about 180 children enrolled.
La Petite Academy and Tutor Time are down the road from the day care and are offering services for parents whose children cannot return to Childtime because of the damage.
Families are encouraged to call:
- Learning Care Group at 904-626-4310
- La Petite Academy at 904-777-0440, it opens at 6 a.m.
- Tutor Time is at 9804-908-5500, it opens at 6:30 a.m.
The state fire marshals said the fire was accidental. It appears that there was an electrical failure associated with some outdoor lighting, officials said.
Robert Schuman has three children who attend the day care and is thankful no one was hurt.
"Accidents happen. Like I said, I'm glad they weren't here, but I'm sure they had something in place in case something like this did happen they'd be able to get out safe," Schuman said.
