CSX plans to lay off 1,000 management-level employees and the majority of workers affected are based in Jacksonville, the company said.
CSX told employees Tuesday about an involuntary separation program, which will be completed by mid- to late-March.

A majority of employees impacted by the layoffs are based in Jacksonville across multiple locations and subsidiaries, CSX said.
The company doesn't know the exact local impact at this time.

The announcement about the layoffs came shortly after the company announced its president and chairman and CEO are retiring from the company effective May 31.
The company's current chief sales and marketing officer Fredrik J. Eliasson has been appointed president effective Feb. 15.

The company said in a press release that the changes are part of a transition of the company’s senior leadership that the board has been considering for more than a year.
