Day 2: Hearing on sinking of El Faro continues testimony on stability, load line standards

Dr. Stettler now sitting on the board questioning Jaideep Sirkar first Tuesday morning at the Coast Guard Marine Board hearing on the sinking of El Faro.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard Marine Board continues the testimony on the stability and load line standards for El Faro on Tuesday, tacking questions such as was the ship correctly loaded and how much was loaded on it and did the cargo compromise its stability?

The latter half of Monday’s testimony turned highly technical but the big takeaway was: It’s “highly unlikely” El Faro would have survived in the weather conditions it faced, even if just one hold had flooded. So Tuesday morning, we will have more testimony in regard to that aspect.

Then two witnesses are scheduled for after lunch: Capt. David Flaherty and Cmdr. Michael Crider. Both witnesses are with the Coast Guard.
