ORANGE PARK, Fla. - A bank robbery suspect was taken into custody just minutes after the robbery by the Clay County Sheriff's Office on Thursday afternoon.
According to CCSO spokeswoman Mary Justino, 56-year-old Robert Hayes entered Compass Bank at 546 Blanding Blvd. at 4:50 p.m.
Justino said Hayes told the teller he was armed but did not display a weapon and left with an undisclosed amount of money.
The man then left the bank on a bicycle that witnesses saw placed in a truck bed.
Deputies took Hayes into custody after a traffic stop farther south on Blanding Boulevard in a shopping complex near Marshalls.
No one was injured during the arrest, Justino said.
