Deputies issue email tax scam warning in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff's Office issued a warning Monday about a new email tax scam.

The Sheriff’s Office said a people were receiving an email from the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel about a refund, but the email is fake. The email is meant to trick people into giving up personal and financial information.

Deputies said anyone who receives an email that appears to be from the TAP is asked to contact the IRS.

CCSO said TAP is a volunteer board that advises the IRS on systemic issues affecting taxpayers. It never requests, and does not have access to, any taxpayer’s personal and financial information such as Social Security and PIN numbers or passwords and similar information for credit cards, banks or other financial institutions.
