Deputies: St. Johns man arrested after meeting undercover detective posing as girl

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A 37-year-old St. Johns County man faces several charges after he agreed to meet an undercover detective who was posing a young girl, deputies said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said Shawn Miller began talking with the undercover detective earlier in the week. Miller conversed with the undercover person about a place and time to meet and to ultimately to engage in sexual activity with the minor girl, detectives said.

The suspect traveled to meet the undercover person at an undisclosed location Wednesday night, SJSO said.

Miller faces eight felony charges including:

  • Using a computer service to seduce, solicit, or lure, a person believed to be a child, to commit an unlawful sexual act with a child
  • Traveling to meet a minor
  • Traveling to meet a minor after using a computer service to entice a person believed to be a parent, to commit an unlawful sexual act with a child
  • Attempted lewd or lascivious battery-engage in sexual activity with a person over 12 but less than 16
  • Use a computer service to entice a person believed to be a parent to commit an unlawful sexual act with a child
  • Promoting a sexual performance by a child
  • Transmitting information harmful to a child
  • Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
