ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - A fight between acquaintances ended in gunfire Friday morning.
The shooting happened at a home on Pecos Court inside Cimmarone, a gated community off CR 210 in St. Johns County.
The Sheriff's Office said 48-year-old Francis Arthur Charles pulled out a gun and shot Blake William Miles around 4 a.m. Investigators initially believed the suspect and victim were relatives.
Charles is the former mayor of St. Augustine Beach, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Miles is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds at UF Health. Action News searched the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office database. According to records, Miles has multiple arrests for battery, kidnapping and false imprisonment and harassment of a witness or informant.
"It's unbelievable. It's tragic, it's a gated community but it can happen anywhere any neighborhood in the country," said Tam Copenhaver.
The Major Crimes Unit of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan told Action News during a live interview at 8 a.m. detectives have not been able to interview either party.
So far no charges have been filed.
