Springfield spot closed because of pests

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A health inspector shut down two restaurants, one of which had issues with rodents and roaches.

Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith visited The Sheik on North Main Street in Jacksonville. A health inspector found rodent droppings, 13 live roaches, and dead roaches. It was temporarily shut down.

“We’ve always complied with the health department and have been in business nearly 50 years," the owner said. "We called Orkin for a deep fog to fix the pest control issues. Everything has been resolved.”

The Sheik was closed on a recent Thursday and was allowed to reopen after a couple of follow-up inspections on the following Monday.

At Hurricane Patty’s in St. Augustine, an inspector noted gray water dripping from a pipe as raw sewage, one live roach and dish machine sanitizer that was too weak to clean. It was temporarily shut down. Hurricane Patty’s was allowed to reopen after a follow-up inspection.

At The Steakhouse in Starke, an inspector noted raw fish being too warm, no date markings to tell if the cheesecake was expired, and the dish machine sanitizer as too weak to clean. A follow-up inspection is required.
