Dozens of live roaches close pizza place

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One restaurant was closed and it had a serious roach problem in this week's Restaurant Report.

A health inspector at Benito’s Pizza and Pastabilities on San Jose Boulevard witnessed so many live roaches they stopped counting after 35 and noted “too many to count”. The inspector counted more than 30 dead roaches and says the restaurant was operating without a valid public food service license. It was temporarily shut down to address the issues.

At the Ramada Inn on Baymeadows Road, a health inspector cited the business for a tomato and two squash with a mold-like substance on them, flies in the bar area, and they saw one live and one dead roach. A follow-up inspection is required.

Health inspectors visited the the Ice Plant Bar and Bottle Shop in St. Augustine. The health inspector saw live flies in the bar area, issued a stop sale on shrimp, and noticed expired cream in the fridge. It met health inspection requirements because all issues were resolved on the spot.
