Early-morning crash closes lanes on Interstate 95

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A single-car crash downtown closed two lanes on Interstate 95 after a woman ran into a guardrail early Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Shaterrel Boyd was driving north in her 2008 Kia just before 4 a.m. when she traveled off the roadway and sideswiped the outside guardrail with the car's right side.

Officers tell Action News Boyd steered her vehicle to the left to continue driving but lost control of her car and hit a concrete barrier wall with the left side of the car.

The FHP says the front of the vehicle suffered severe damage.

According to officers, speed is a factor in the collision.

Boyd and her passenger, Jeremy Brooks, were not wearing seat belts and were transported to UF Health.

Police say Boyd is in critical condition and Brooks is in serious condition.
