'Exciting' opening night for Jacksonville's Daily's Place

Saturday marked the first night for Jacksonville’s Daily’s Place, and event concert goers said it was an exciting night.

Concert goers told Action News Jax Kevin Clark that they’re hoping this excitement is a good omen for more development downtown.

“We’re excited about it. This is great for Jacksonville,” concert attendee Lisa Huffman said.

Fittingly, hometown band Tedeschi Trucks played the first concert.

Concert goers were excited to check out the venue--what many called their new home.

“The seats are fabulous, cup holders, there’s not a bad seat in the house,” concert attendee Allison Abbott said.

The venue is part of Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan’s vision to develop downtown, along with the recently approved shipyards project.

“It’s great to have an outdoor theater in downtown Jacksonville. It makes a lot of sense, give us a place to go and everybody have a good time, and be close to home,” concert attendee Joe Lubrant.

But tonight wasn’t all about the new, it was also about remembering the legends.

Tedeschi Trucks have ties to The Allman Brothers Band, and the group dedicated its opening number to Greg Allman, who died Saturday at 69.

“With Greg Allman just passing away, this is going to be a special concert, and we’re glad to be here,” Huffman said.
