Fake Amazon job offers circulating in Jacksonville

An Action News Jax investigation uncovers scammers trying to steal personal information through bogus Amazon employment contracts.

For many, employment with the online retail giant, Amazon, may be a dream job.

But, it appears con artists are preying on those dreams to scam you.

“[Scams] generally pop up during the holiday season because they know people are online, they know people are out and about, they know that they’re at their most vulnerable state, simply because it’s the season of giving,” said Action News Jax Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson.

Action News Jax obtained fake part-time and full-time Amazon employment agreements, which are turning up in people’s email.

"They look like the real deal, but I doubt that they are," said neighbor Regina Berger.

An Action News Jax viewer sent us the employment agreements, saying she received them in an email and she was suspicious.

Action News Jax took them to the company, which confirmed the documents didn’t come from them. It appears to be a scam.

A closer look at the contracts shows grammatical errors, and a strange website abbreviation at the top of Page 1.

"If you look at the website, it says www.amz, not the entire word, www.amazon.com, which lets you know.  Amazon.com doesn't use their initials, they use their whole word," Jefferson said.

Jefferson said the scammers are likely using these to get people’s personal information.

“That’s how people get taken advantage of,” Berger said.  “They don’t know any better.”
