JFRD responded Saturday to a fire at the Metro Inn and Suites at I-95 and Golfair Blvd.
The fire happened around 6 a.m. Witnesses told Action News Jax that the owner knocked on everyone's door, urging them to get out.
Several families lost everything they owned in the fire because the motel was their home. The Red Cross quickly arrived to assist families in need.
Around 60 people were staying in the motel at the time. Two people suffered minor injuries.
The motel was heavily damaged by smoke. The fire remains under investigation.
UPDATE: fire has been put out at Metro Inn and Suites on Golfair Blvd. Some people are going back to rooms; Red Cross is helping others.
