Fans in town for Taxslayer Bowl say they'll be back to visit Jacksonville again

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cooler weather didn’t stop thousands of fans from heading to Jacksonville for the Taxslayer Bowl.

Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets took on the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday morning at EverBank Field.

The Yellow Jackets beat Kentucky 33-18. Kentucky's contingent of fans brought its bourbon, Georgia Tech brought the jackets, hoping to keep warm.

The teams' fans always bring their pocketbooks. Game officials say 50,000 people were expected at the game, hoping to generate an approximate $30 million economic boost. Mark Long, of The Associated Press, said the game attendance was 43,102.

“It’s good to see the Big Blue Nation show up and support your local businesses and hotels,” one Kentucky fan said.

Many spent some time before the game exploring the city.

“You all were ready, been welcoming,” a fan said.

Another fan said, “Love Jacksonville, Jacksonville Landing,”

These fans say they will be back.

“I haven’t been in Jacksonville in a while, but let me tell you, I’m going to be back. I’m going to be back. I had a great time this weekend.”
