Pedestrian killed in traffic crash outside Riverside YMCA

A fatal crash Thursday at 4:53 a.m. closed traffic for several hours in the 200 block of Riverside Avenue.
As officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigate the deadly crash that killed an unidentified pedestrian, two northbound lanes of Riverside Avenue at Stonewall Street are closed, a couple blocks south of Park Street.
JSO says a driver of an SUV was traveling south on Riverside Ave. and hit the pedestrian when making a left turn at a green light into the YMCA. The impact sent the pedestrian into the northbound lanes, and another driver traveling north then struck the pedestrian.
Officials say the pedestrian died at the scene.
JSO said both drivers didn’t see the person and both had green lights. At this time the drivers are not facing charges in this ongoing investigation.
The road closure impacted the entrances of Yates Family YMCA and The Haskell Company for about two hours. The lanes are reopened around 9:15 a.m.
