Federal subpoena served to nonprofit connected to Jacksonville city councilman

The FBI on Friday served federal subpoenas to a local rehabilitation center run by Jacksonville City Councilman Reginald Gaffney.

We spoke to the attorney for Community Rehabilitation Center and its foundation.

The center's lawyer, Wes White, insists no one connected to this nonprofit is the target of this probe.

White sent Action News Jax a statement on Friday, insisting the center is not focus of this federal investigation.

White said he represents Community Rehabilitation Center and the CRC Foundation. In a statement, he said "Neither CRC, the foundation, or any employee or director of CRC are the targets of a federal investigation."

Gaffney is the director of CRC and said in the statement, "We have retained counsel to assist us in fully complying with the subpoenas, and to assist the government in its investigation."

According to its website, Community Rehabilitation Center is a nonprofit that helps people with a number of health issues.

Last month, we told you how Rep. Corrine Brown was also served a federal subpoena. We've reached out to the Justice Department and it would not confirm if these two subpoenas are related.

We have reached out to Brown’s staff in Washington DC and Jacksonville. Both said they are unaware if Brown has served any other documents recently.

We have reached out to Gaffney at his office and over the phone. His voice mail says the mailbox is full. We're working on getting a response.
