Former Glynn County 'Teacher of the Year' arrested for alleged child molestation

A Glynn County man has been arrested for child molestation, according to the Glynn County Police Department.

Eric Cabrera, 40, the assistant principal at Oglethorpe Point Elementary School was arrested Wednesday morning around 7 a.m. police said.

There was a warrant issued for Cabrera's arrest after authorities received allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with a student in 2014. The incident allegedly happened on school property -- when Cabrera was a teacher.

Cabrera has been put on administrative leave, police said in a press release.

"It was important to bring some resolution to this before the new school year started," Glynn County Police Chief John Powell said.

Cabrera was chosen as Glynn County's 'Teacher of the Year', for the 2012-2013 school year. He was a fifth-grade teacher at the time.
