Former NFL wide receiver arrested for battery in Jacksonville

A former Florida Gators and NFL wide receiver was arrested Tuesday after he was accused of striking the woman who lives with him, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report said.

Derrick Jabar Gaffney, 36, got into an argument with his girlfriend of 18 months, the report said. The girlfriend said Gaffney poked her in the head, but Gaffney denied any wrongdoing, JSO said.

Gaffney is charged with misdemeanor battery.

JSO said the girlfriend had a small red bump above her left eye. She said she had been physically abused before, she told police, but hadn't reported any incident until Sept. 26, she told JSO.

Gaffney yelled at her, "Good luck in court," the police report added. The girlfriend moved out after reporting the alleged incident, JSO said.
