Four arrested after cops say they were squatting at Orange Park home

Deputies used a bettering ram to open the door to an Orange Park home after four people squatting inside it refused to leave right away, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Amanda Prevatt, 36, Shawn Pons, 30, and Shanna Carithers, 23, were arrested and charged with burglary and resisting arrest. Clay deputies also arrested a 16-year-old found at the residence.
The report said the owner of the home at 952 Doshire Drive moved to Orlando in July 2015 to be with her daughter for medical reasons. She left a key to the home with a neighbor, who reported seeing unauthorized people in the home.
The neighbor tried to use the key to enter the home but discovered the locks had been changed. The neighbor called police, who called the home owner.
The home owner gave police permission to enter the home, the report said. When police arrived, they observed movement inside the residence, but no one would answer the front door.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office used a a battering ram to open the front door and tried to clear the residence, but a pit bull — described as “full-grown” — barked aggressively at the police.
The report said the pit bull had to be pepper-sprayed in order to prevent an attack. Animal control arrived later to secure the pit bull and another dog that was found at the home.
One of the alleged squatters, identified as Prevatt, was found hiding behind a piece of plywood in the garage. One of the police officers was cut in the left buttocks when he fell to the ground while trying to arrest Prevatt, the report said.
